Weave Workshop

Through weaving I really wanted to capture the fragility and papery qualities of my Grandads skin. I chose to experiment and explore different techniques using a range of yarns from cotton, to paper yarns, cut up plastic bags and elastic creating quite open textural weave structures against plain tight weave. I decided I would keep the warp very plain and used neutral, natural yarns concentrating mostly on texture. At the beginning I kept the weft the same, using only plain yarns but exploring fancy yarns and making some of my own. I later decided to bring in hints of colours, taking inspiration from my Grandads bruises, although I don't feel these were quite as successful. I really enjoyed the weave workshop and would love the oppurtunity to further my knowledge in this area of textiles.
