Initial Research...
Knit Workshop...
Through my Knitting workshop, I began by just doing plain knits using greys and browns representing the street floor. Again, this didn't excite me and I decided to photograph the street in the dark, when it was all lit up. I really liked the way the photos turned out and the different colours within them.
I began with picking out different colours within this photographs and experimented with different textures and thickness of yarns.
I really liked the way the light falls on the wet floor on the photographs and chose to focus on the light parts of the photograph against the darker parts. I experimented with E-wrapping different yarns into my knitting to represent the lights in the photo.
Digital Print Workshop...
In my Digital workshop I experimented with different tools for example, creating my own brushes, magnetic lasso tool, hue and saturation, brightness and contrast, opacity and layers. In my developments I concentrated on just one photograph highlighting the elements of it that I really liked. For example the lights on the floor and some of the shop lights.
Development...
Taking inspiration from the brief Sleuths, Spies and Lies, I began to listen to what people were saying as the passed me on Market street. I felt as though I was listening to people secrets and finding out things I shouldn't be. Although I really liked this concept, I struggled on how to incorporate this in my work. I experimented with layering them with my drawings of people but I don't really feel like this worked.
Therefore I decdied to experiment with weaving what I heard back into my knitting, using a silk fabric with what i had heard written on it to represent the light element within my photographs.
