Ideas for Blue sky thinking..

After attending the presentations yesterday  have chosen to join the group whose ideas interested me the most, I felt really intrigued and inspired by their ideas. I loved their idea of using an umbrella to represent their idea of branching out and also a metaphor for how Manchester is always raining!!! Some of the ideas they have come up with for their Festival include using the idea creating pop up spaces in Manchester, not necessarily using the well known places in Manchester, but highlighting places that are unused or have the potential do do something really great with. They want to create collapsible structures that can be quickly moved from one space to another, also highlighting the idea of the Umbrella. Another thing the group were really interested in was promoting sustainability throughout the festival, using waste products etc to create the structures.

From that I tried to think of ways i could create collapsible structures using knit. Thinking about windbreakers people use on the beach, I thought this could be and interesting way to create a space, perhaps attaching the knitting to poles like this or even pillars or something already in the space. Natural dyes and yarns could be used to keep the design 'green' or I could experiment with knitting with waste products found around Manchester.
